Steam Innovation

project description

The STEAM Innovation project will contribute to developing creative students, teachers, and pedagogies. We rely on the notion that students create wisely and humanely, and that cyclical developments occur between their creativity and their identity as they generate new ideas. This in turn transforms them as ‘makers’ – they are developing or ‘becoming’ themselves. Small changes contribute to ‘journeys of becoming’. These are embedded within an ethical awareness of the impact of creative actions on the group. Through this process small-scale creative changes or ‘quiet revolutions’ can take place for the group as a whole.

The European Commission’s Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) framework promotes a transparent, interactive process: innovators are mutually responsive. In STEAM Innovation, ideas generated through individual, collaborative and communal activities have a potent capacity to contribute to engagement and change.

goals

The project seeks to enhance students’ intellectual curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving abilities while promoting sustainability, cultural heritage, and gender inclusivity in STEM fields. The primary objectives of the project include:

  • Developing an Educational Framework – Establishing a comprehensive STEAM-based educational model that seamlessly integrates cultural heritage appreciation and sustainability awareness. This framework will serve as a foundation for fostering environmental consciousness and cultural understanding within the learning process.
  • Encouraging Interdisciplinary Learning – Promoting an interdisciplinary approach that enhances students’ ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and innovate by merging scientific inquiry with artistic creativity. Designing a Dynamic Curriculum – Creating a flexible and modular curriculum that incorporates digital tools, hands-on projects, and creative methodologies to engage students in STEAM education. This curriculum will emphasize experiential learning and real-world applications.
  • Advancing Gender Diversity in STEM – Implementing initiatives and educational strategies that make STEM fields more accessible, appealing, and inclusive for all genders, with a focus on encouraging greater female participation in traditionally male-dominated disciplines. Fostering Entrepreneurship and Innovation – Equipping students with entrepreneurial skills and an innovation-driven mindset, enabling them to contribute to sustainable economic growth and address societal challenges through creative problem-solving.
  • Aligning with EU Education Policies – Integrating environmental and cultural resources into educational strategies to align with EU policies and global sustainability goals, ensuring the project’s relevance and long-term impact.
