Youth Empowerment in Grassroots Tourism: A New Wave from Matera
In October 2023, the Grassroots project organised a 3-day hackathon in Matera to incubate innovative tourism business ideas. Two projects were selected for incubation: “Living Histories,” an immersive touristic experience promoting tourism dispersal in Matera, and an AI-powered guide to uncover hidden gems developed by Alina Dumitru.
These initiatives address social, environmental, and economic challenges, transforming Matera into a sustainable tourist destination.

Rio2C: Building Bridges Between Brazil and Europe
Materahub recently participated in Rio2C, Latin America’s largest creativity gathering with over 50,000 participants. The event highlighted Brazil’s creative market and international trends, with discussions on artificial intelligence, cultural innovation, and ethical implications.
Representing Basilicata Creativa, Materahub showcased the EU-funded initiative CREATHRIV-EU, which connects various EU creative clusters to support green and digital transitions. Brazil’s strong interest in the European cultural model emphasized the value of cross-continental collaboration in the creative industries.
