Join us on 24 September (16:30–18:00) for the panel “From Green to Just Transition, Skills Gap and Current Offers for the CCS,” moderated by Materahub

At this year’s Creative Skills Week, the spotlight turns green with a dynamic panel discussion led by the Working Group on Green Transformation of the Creative Pact for Skills. The session, titled “From Green to Just Transition, Skills Gap and Current Offers for the CCS” will bring together key stakeholders from across Europe to confront one of the most pressing challenges facing the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs): how to align training and skills development with the realities of the green transition.

With a focus on the growing mismatch between existing training programmes and the evolving needs of the sector, the session will highlight insights and initiatives from key European actors, including barriers to upskilling, strategies for inclusive and sustainable transformation, and the role of regional partnerships in strengthening training ecosystems.

Guided by our own Paolo Montemurro and Giulia Fornari, the panel will take the inputs of Aldje Van Meer Willem de Kooning Academy (Arts & Ecology WG in ELIA), Bernie McCoy – Fashion & Textile Expert and Designer , Ireland CFA (Creative Future Academy), Enda O’Dowd National College of Art & Design, Seoidín O’SullivanNational College of Art & Design.

Through case studies and different educational models, the session will engage attendants into a discussion on the barriers to upskilling, strategies for inclusive and sustainable transformation and on community-embedded practices with a focus on research and practices centered on biomaterials and sustainable fashion in order to  to rethink how skills systems can become more inclusive, future-oriented, and resilient. The session will also be the opportunity to present and discuss new practical tools such as the material from the Creative Future Academy or the Green Circle Project, and the GreenComp Pass, a resource designed to support professionals and organizations in building and assessing green competencies.

The Role of the Cultural and Creative Industries Skills Partnership

Central to this discussion is the Large-scale Skills Partnership for Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI LSP), a collaborative initiative launched in April 2022 under the European Commission’s Pact for Skills. Coordinated by ECBN, BEDA, and Creative Skills Europe, the partnership brings together European social partners, international networks, training providers, and professionals with a shared goal: to strengthen workforce capabilities and attract new talent in a sector under transformation.

Within this framework, Materahub leads the Working Group on Skills for the Green Transformation, dedicated to mapping existing initiatives, promoting lifelong learning, and creating accessible pathways for reskilling and upskilling. The objective is clear: to embed sustainability and ecological awareness at the heart of the cultural and creative economy, rather than treating them as peripheral concerns. This vision encompasses a workforce fully equipped with the green skills required to navigate a transitioning economy, a deeper ecological awareness at every level, greater access to continuous learning opportunities, and improved mobility across Europe through the recognition of skills and qualifications.
