project description

Climate change is the single greatest challenge our European Community is called upon to face in the decades to come. The European Green Deal (EGD) is the most ambitious political initiative undertaken in the history of our Union, and it has been hailed as ‘Europe’s man on the moon moment’. However, for the policy to be successful it needs to work for every citizen, ensuring that no one is left behind. In the words of our President, ‘’this transition will either be working for all and be just, or it will not work at all’’.

The motivation for implementing CLICA is our consortium’s intention to make the EGD work for youth who due to their locality are both at the frontlines of the European climate change crisis and at the same time are struggling to address the challenges it creates due to their very geographic remoteness.

goals

Producing a model for reinforcing civic participation and improving interactions between the youth movement for climate and sustainability and government. It would have put science, creativity, and innovation policy needs at the core of exchanges and further fed youth assemblies that will go beyond the project.

Spurring innovation for addressing disadvantaged youth and providing new opportunities for their participation in democratic life. The project promotes the development of social and intercultural competencies of young Europeans, and their critical thinking through artivism and creativity.

outputs

  • Creating a two-level cooperative platform for civic engagement that links youth with artists, creatives, and policymakers and help them voice their needs, feelings, goals and fears in a way that is conducive to better policy-making and increased awareness about the EU Green Deal and 2030 Agenda, along with the EU Youth Strategy and Youth Goals. Organize Youth Assemblies at local and EU level, expected to turn into permanent Local Change Labs at the end of the project and committed to enhancing youth agency and influencing youth policy-making.

  • Creation of the Open Labs with artists and creatives, specialists of EU Green Deal, climate change and environmental issues, that will provide them with actionable fundamentals and principles to be used in hands-on and experiential projects of art-based works and interventions, both physical and digital.

  • CLICA notably leverages artivism as a new way for young people to come together to reimagine and design a better future, and achieve social engagement and social change by using innovation and artistic creation.
